Car Body Shop Dubai: What to Look for and What to Pay

DentGuy Technical Team6 min read

Finding a reliable car body shop in Dubai takes more than a Google search. The market ranges from authorised dealer bodyshops charging two to three times market rates, to backstreet operations that use filler where metal should be straightened. Neither extreme is where most car owners should end up.

This guide covers how car body repair is priced in Dubai, what different types of repair actually involve, and what separates work that holds for five years from work that shows up six months later as cracking paint or mismatched colour.

Types of Car Body Repair and What Each Costs

Car body repair in Dubai covers a range of work at very different price points. The type of damage determines the method, and the method determines the cost.

**Paintless dent repair (PDR)** is the correct approach when your car has a dent but the paint is undamaged. A technician uses steel rods and glue-pull tools to massage the metal back to its original shape from behind the panel, with no filler, no sanding, and no repainting. Small door dings: AED 250 to AED 350. Medium dents from parking contact: AED 350 to AED 500. Large shallow dents: AED 500 to AED 800. PDR is not appropriate when paint has cracked or the metal has been creased sharply enough to break its elasticity.

**Panel respray** covers dents, scratches, or scuffs where the paint has been damaged. The technician repairs the underlying metal or filler, primes, colour-matches to the VIN code, sprays, clears, cures, and polishes. A single panel on a mid-size sedan: AED 400 to AED 600. Large panels on SUVs: AED 550 to AED 850. Bumper resprays: AED 400 to AED 600.

**Full car respray** repaints every exterior panel. Used for faded paint across the whole vehicle, colour changes, or extensive damage. Same-colour refresh on a sedan: AED 2,500 to AED 3,500. Colour change: AED 4,000 to AED 6,000. Large SUVs add AED 500 to AED 1,500 due to surface area.

**Scratch repair** ranges from AED 150 for a machine polish on a clear-coat-only scratch to AED 600 for a panel with deep scratches that broke through the paint into the primer or metal. See our car painting cost guide for a detailed breakdown by scratch depth.

How Dubai Body Shops Price Repairs

Dubai body shops use two pricing models: quote by photo or quote after physical inspection. The first is faster and better for straightforward repairs. The second is standard for larger jobs where structural damage, hidden panel deformation, or multi-panel involvement cannot be assessed from photos.

For PDR and single-panel resprays, most reputable shops in Al Quoz will give a fixed price from clear photos sent via WhatsApp. At DentGuy, we quote same-day from photos and lock the price before the car comes in. No revisions at collection.

For full resprays, colour changes, or accident damage involving multiple panels, a physical assessment is standard. Expect the quote to come from an inspection of the panel gaps, door alignment, and surface feel, not just visual appearance.

Authorised dealer bodyshops (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, etc.) charge a premium for labour rates and parts, but they also use OEM-specified paint processes and manufacturer-approved repair methods. If your car is under warranty and you are concerned about maintaining it, a dealer bodyshop is defensible. For standard body repairs on an out-of-warranty vehicle, the quality premium rarely justifies the price difference versus a well-equipped independent bodyshop using the same paint systems (PPG, BASF Glasurit) and I-CAR certified techniques.

What Separates Good Bodywork from Bad

Most poor bodywork in Dubai is not obviously wrong immediately after delivery. It shows up 3 to 18 months later as paint cracking over filler that was applied too thick, colour mismatch that becomes visible in different light conditions, or clear coat peeling from panels that were not prepared correctly before spraying.

Four indicators of quality to check at collection:

**Colour match in different light.** Look at the repaired panel in direct sunlight and in shade. Metallic and pearl finishes can appear to match in one lighting condition and show clear deviation in another. A good colour match holds in both.

**Panel gap consistency.** On panels that were removed and refitted, gaps between the panel and adjacent panels should be even and consistent. Uneven gaps indicate the panel is not correctly aligned, which causes door and boot seal problems later.

**Paint depth on adjacent panels.** A handheld paint depth gauge (available for AED 100 to AED 200) measures the thickness of paint on each panel in microns. Factory paint runs 100 to 180 microns. A panel that has been resprayed reads higher. A panel reading above 250 microns has had filler applied under the paint. Ask your bodyshop whether any filler was used and on which panels, and verify against the gauge reading.

**Surface texture.** Run a finger across the repaired area. Quality bodywork polished to factory spec should feel smooth. Orange peel texture, visible as a texture like the skin of an orange, indicates the clearcoat was not correctly polished after application.

Body Repair for Lease Returns in Dubai

A significant share of car body repair work in Dubai is driven by lease return inspections. Most manufacturer leases (Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, BMW Financial Services, Audi Financial Services) conduct a return inspection against published fair wear and tear guidelines. Damage outside those guidelines is charged to the customer at rates set by the leasing company, typically 20 to 40% above market repair rates.

Repairing before return almost always makes financial sense when the leasing company charges AED 1,200 for a panel respray that costs AED 450 at an independent bodyshop. The key is matching the repair quality to what the inspection will accept: same-colour, correct texture, clean panel gaps.

At DentGuy, we do lease return preparation assessments. We walk around the car against the lease company's published fair wear and tear guidelines, identify repairs that will be charged, price each repair, and give you a clear recommendation on which repairs are worth doing before return.

DentGuy's Al Quoz Workshop

DentGuy operates from Al Quoz Industrial Area 3, Dubai. Our workshop handles PDR, panel resprays, full car repaints, alloy wheel repair, and scratch repair. We do not do mechanical work, glass replacement, or accident documentation for insurance without prior arrangement.

For most standard body repairs, we quote from WhatsApp photos the same day. Cars are typically booked within 1 to 3 working days and returned within 24 to 48 hours for PDR repairs, 3 to 5 working days for panel resprays, and 5 to 7 working days for full resprays.

To get a quote, send clear photos showing the damage from multiple angles via WhatsApp. Include one photo of the full panel and one close-up of the damage area. We respond with a fixed price and a booking slot. No inspection required before quoting for PDR or single-panel work.
