Car Paint Repair Dubai: Fix Chips, Scuffs, and Faded Panels

What Car Paint Repair Covers?

Car paint repair dubai is the broad category for fixing any damage to a vehicle's paint system, from a single stone chip on the bonnet to an oxidised panel that has lost its gloss entirely. The repair method depends on the depth of the damage.

A paint system has four layers: primer (bonds to metal), base coat (colour), clear coat (gloss and UV protection), and the substrate below. Stone chips break through all four layers. Surface scuffs may only damage the clear coat. Fade and oxidation are usually clear coat failure from prolonged UV exposure.

Knowing which layer is damaged determines whether you need a localised touch-up, a SMART repair, or a full panel respray. Our technicians at Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 identify the damage type from photos before we quote, so you are never surprised when you arrive.

Types of Paint Damage and the Right Repair for Each

Paint damage in Dubai follows predictable patterns. These are the most common:

- Stone chips: small impacts from motorway debris, most common on bonnets and front bumpers. Sizes from 2mm to 15mm. Treated with targeted touch-up or localised spray depending on chip count. Starting from AED 300 for a small cluster. - Clear coat scuffs: contact with another surface removes the clear coat layer, leaving a dull patch. No colour damage. Fixed with cut and polish or localised clear reapplication. AED 300 to AED 500. - Panel scuffs with paint transfer: contact that leaves the other vehicle's colour on your panel. Requires colour-matched base coat. AED 400 to AED 700 depending on panel size. - Oxidised or faded panels: prolonged sun exposure breaks down the clear coat, causing a chalky or dull appearance. Full panel respray required. AED 400 to AED 800 per panel. - Collision paint damage: deeper impacts combine dent and paint damage. The dent is addressed first (PDR if possible, filler if not), then primed and painted. See our car body repair guide for the full process.

The right repair matches the damage. Over-repairing (respraying a whole panel for a 3mm chip) wastes money. Under-repairing (touch-up on oxidation) looks worse than the original damage within a month.

Is Smart Paint Repair Worth It?

SMART repair stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technique. It is a localised process that avoids removing the panel from the car and blends the repair into the surrounding paint within a defined area, typically less than one-third of the panel.

SMART repair is the right approach when the damage is localised and the surrounding paint is in good condition. It is faster (2 to 4 hours versus 1 to 2 days for a full panel) and costs less (AED 400 to AED 700 versus AED 600 to AED 900 for a full respray).

SMART repair is not the right approach when the clear coat has failed across most of the panel, when the existing paint is heavily faded, or when multiple damage points are spread across the full panel surface. In those cases, a panel respray gives a more consistent result.

We assess the damage and recommend the approach that costs you less while achieving a result you can see, not just read about on a quote sheet.

How Much Does Car Paint Repair Cost in Dubai?

Pricing depends on damage type, panel size, and repair method. Approximate costs from our Al Quoz workshop:

- Stone chip touch-up (small cluster, localised): AED 300 to AED 500 - Clear coat scuff repair: AED 300 to AED 500 - SMART repair (localised paint and clear): AED 400 to AED 700 - Single panel respray (standard solid colour): AED 400 to AED 800 - Single panel respray (metallic or pearl): AED 500 to AED 900 - Two panels (door and quarter panel): AED 800 to AED 1,400 - Full car repaint (same colour): AED 2,500 to AED 5,000 depending on vehicle size

According to Dubai Municipality vehicle roadworthiness guidelines, paint condition is not a registration criterion for standard vehicles, but unaddressed rust from chipped paint can become a structural issue over time in humid coastal conditions.

What Happens During a Panel Respray?

A panel respray at our Al Quoz body shop follows a specific sequence to ensure the new paint bonds correctly and matches the existing panels:

1. Panel prep: wash, degrease, light sand to give the new paint a surface to bond to. 2. Masking: adjacent panels, glass, and trim are masked to protect them from overspray. 3. Primer application: bare metal or repaired filler areas receive primer before colour coat. 4. Colour matching: we use a spectrophotometer to read your car's exact colour code and mix to match. Dubai's sun causes slight fade on older panels, so the match accounts for current panel tone, not just the factory code. 5. Base coat: applied in 2 to 3 coats, each flashed off before the next. 6. Clear coat: 2 coats of clear coat for gloss and UV protection. 7. Bake and cure: panels are baked at 60 degrees Celsius for hardening. This is the standard PPG refinish process we follow for consistent cure quality. 8. Cut and polish: once cured, the panel is cut and polished to blend with surrounding panels.

Total time: 1 to 2 days for a single panel. See our scratch repair guide for cases where PDR combined with localised paint is the better option.

When a Full Respray Is the Right Call

A full car respray makes sense in three situations: the vehicle has been in a significant collision affecting multiple panels, the paint has faded unevenly across the whole car (common on 8 to 12-year-old vehicles that have spent years in Dubai's UV index 8-plus sun), or you are changing the vehicle's colour for personal or commercial reasons.

A full respray is not a substitute for addressing dents and rust before painting. Paint over unrepaired bodywork fails within 12 to 18 months. The correct sequence is: structural repair, rust treatment if present, primer, colour, clear. Our process follows this sequence on every vehicle.

For lease return vehicles, a full respray is rarely cost-effective compared to targeted repairs. Focus on the specific damage points the dealer's inspection will flag, handle those individually, and keep the rest in good condition. Our lease return guide covers the full inspection criteria.
