Wheel Rim Repair Dubai: Kerb Damage, Scratches, and Bent Rims

DentGuy Technical Team6 min read

Wheel rim repair in Dubai covers a range of damage types that require different approaches depending on what has happened to the rim. A kerb scratch on a painted alloy is a different repair from a bent rim after a pothole impact, which is again different from a cracked diamond-cut finish on a luxury vehicle wheel.

DentGuy handles all three at our Al Quoz workshop, using the correct process for each damage type. Standard painted rim repair starts at AED 250 per wheel. Diamond-cut rim restoration starts at AED 450. Bent rim straightening is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on bend severity and rim material.

What Type of Wheel Rim Damage Can Be Repaired?

Understanding which type of rim damage you have determines what the repair involves and how long it takes.

Kerb rash (surface scratches): The most common type. The rim has scraped a kerb and the outer face has scratches or gouges in the finish. For painted rims: the damaged area is sanded, filled if needed, primed, resprayed in matched colour, and clearcoated. The entire wheel is refinished for colour consistency. For diamond-cut rims: the face must be re-machined on a lathe to restore the cut finish, then lacquered. You cannot respray a diamond-cut face and replicate the machined appearance. See our detailed alloy wheel guide for full details on both processes.

Bent rim: The rim has impacted a pothole, speed bump, or road debris and is no longer perfectly round. Bent rims cause vibration, uneven tyre wear, and in severe cases loss of tyre pressure. Bent rim straightening uses a hydraulic press to reshape the rim to its original profile. This is only appropriate for bends, not for cracks. A cracked rim is a safety issue that requires replacement, not repair.

Cracked rim: Cracks, particularly near the spoke junctions or bead seat, compromise structural integrity. A cracked rim should be replaced. Welded cracks may hold short-term but the repaired area is weaker than the original material and may fail under load.

Finish wear and oxidation: Older alloy wheels develop cloudy or pitted finish from environmental exposure and brake dust. A full refinish restores the appearance without any structural repair. This is the same process as kerb rash repair when limited to the finish.

Wheel Rim Repair Pricing in Dubai

At DentGuy, rim repair pricing is per wheel:

- Standard painted alloy, kerb rash repair: AED 250 to AED 350 - Standard painted alloy, full refinish: AED 300 to AED 400 - Diamond-cut alloy, face re-machining and lacquer: AED 450 to AED 600 - Bent rim straightening: AED 300 to AED 500 depending on severity - Premium or oversized rim (19-inch plus): add AED 50 to AED 100 per wheel

Full set of four wheels: the per-wheel price applies with a minor reduction when all four are done at the same visit, since setup and colour mixing is shared across the job.

Diamond-cut rims take longer to complete than painted rims because the re-machining process requires dedicated lathe time and the lacquer needs full cure before the wheel can be mounted. Plan for 2 to 3 working days for diamond-cut restoration versus same-day or next-day for painted rim repair.

For pricing in a wider context, our full wheel restoration covers all finish types including chrome and powder-coat options.

Why Is Kerb Damage So Common on Dubai Roads?

Dubai's urban road infrastructure produces specific kerb damage patterns that European or North American drivers may not expect.

Raised kerb profiles along Sheikh Zayed Road service roads, JBR, and marina areas sit higher than UK or European kerbs. The vertical face of the kerb is more exposed to the wheel's path during parking. Parking sensors help but do not account for the angle at which a wheel approaches a raised kerb during a parallel park.

Underground car parks in Downtown Dubai, DIFC, and Abu Dhabi Avenue add a different hazard: the corner ramps where the driving surface transitions to a lower level. The ramp edge is often the exact width of a tyre contact patch from the wall edge. At speed, the outer rim face contacts the ramp edge and produces a defined impact scrape.

Brake dust accumulation also affects rim finish more aggressively in stop-start urban driving conditions. Dubai Municipality vehicle standards require roadworthy tyres but do not specify cosmetic standards for alloy finish. Rim condition is therefore an owner decision rather than a compliance requirement.

The practical implication: rim damage in Dubai tends to be lower-face kerb scrapes from parking, rather than side-impact from fast driving. These are exactly the damage types that respond best to the refinishing process.

Rim Repair When Combined with Body Damage

A minor parking incident often produces both body panel damage and rim damage simultaneously. The car has been edged into a kerb or pillar, the rear quarter panel has a dent, and the rear wheel rim has kerb rash.

Handling both repairs at the same specialist saves time and produces better results than splitting them between a tyre shop for the rim and a body shop for the panel. The paint colour match on the rim is easier to achieve when the same workshop is also respraying the adjacent panel, since the same colour batch is mixed and applied in the same session.

At DentGuy, combined body and rim repairs are quoted together after inspection. The PDR assessment for the body panel and the rim damage assessment happen at the same time, giving a single fixed price for the complete job.

For BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche owners where factory alloy finishes require precise colour and surface matching, keeping both repairs in the same workshop is particularly important. Our BMW scratch repair and Mercedes dent repair work frequently includes simultaneous rim restoration on the affected corner.

Does Your Rim Need Repair or Full Replacement?

Before booking a rim repair, assess the damage to determine whether repair is appropriate.

Run your finger across the damaged area. A smooth gouge with no raised edges is a surface finish issue, suitable for refinishing. A rough, jagged edge or visible cracking at the damage point suggests structural compromise.

Check for vibration at speed. If the car vibrates between 80 and 120 km/h and the vibration changes with speed, the rim may be bent or out of round. This requires straightening or replacement depending on severity.

Check the bead seat area. The bead seat is the inner edge where the tyre sits. Any damage here that causes air loss cannot be repaired. The rim needs replacement.

Look for cracks near the spoke bases. Spoke junction cracks are a safety issue and the wheel must be replaced. A refinish repair will not address structural integrity.

For damage limited to the outer face and outer rim edge, repair is appropriate. For bent rims with no cracking, straightening is appropriate. For cracked rims, replace. When in doubt, bring the wheel in for inspection before committing to repair cost. We will assess it and give you an honest recommendation on repair versus replacement.
