BMW uses a four-layer paint system across most models: electrocoat primer, filler, base coat, and clear coat. Individual Colour and Frozen (matte) finishes add complexity — they cannot be polished conventionally and require specific two-component clears. M Series models with matte wraps or factory matte paint need a repair technician who understands what they are working with before touching the surface. A general bodyshop that resprays the standard way will leave a visible sheen difference on matte paint. Scratch Depth Determines the Repair Method
Not every scratch reaches the same layer, and the repair method depends entirely on depth. A clear coat scratch shows as a white scuff or haze but has not broken the colour layer — most are polishable without any paint. A colour layer scratch cuts through to the primer and needs paint matched and applied to that panel. A metal scratch has broken through every layer and carries a corrosion risk in Dubai's humidity. We inspect every car under proper lighting before confirming the repair scope. A quote based on a photo is an estimate — the final assessment happens in the workshop.

Scratch repair on a BMW starts at AED 300 for a single clear coat SMART repair. Colour layer repairs on one panel run AED 400 to 550 depending on panel size. Deep metal scratches requiring full primer, colour, and clear coat application start at AED 500. Multi-panel damage is quoted after inspection. BMW Individual and Frozen colours carry a premium because the paint has to be sourced and mixed to exact specification — standard off-the-shelf codes will not match. Why Lease Return and Resale Timing Matters
Most BMW drivers in Dubai are on a finance or lease arrangement. At lease return, the finance company will charge full dealer rate for any scratch that exceeds fair wear and tear — typically AED 800 to 1,500 per panel at a main dealer. The Repair Process
The car comes in, we photograph and assess the damage under inspection light, confirm the repair scope and price, and schedule the work. SMART repairs on clear coat and shallow colour scratches take three to four hours. Full panel resprays require two to three days for proper drying and colour cure in Dubai's humidity. The car is not returned until the repair is dry, buffed, and matched. We do not rush drying with heat guns on BMW Individual colours because it affects the finish.
