Bent rim repair in Dubai costs AED 200 to AED 400 per wheel for most standard alloy wheels. The range covers the majority of bends caused by potholes, speed bumps, and kerb impacts at speed. A bent rim that is caught early and straightened correctly is as structurally sound as before the impact. Left alone, the same bend worsens, and the repair window closes.

How Do You Know If Your Rim Is Bent?
The most common signal is vibration through the steering wheel at a specific speed range, usually between 60 and 120 km/h. The vibration comes and goes with speed because a bent rim creates an out-of-round rotation that resonates at particular frequencies. At lower speeds, the effect is too small to feel clearly. At highway speed, it becomes obvious.
A second signal is slow tyre pressure loss. If a tyre consistently drops 5 to 10 PSI over a week or two without any visible puncture, a bent rim may have compromised the bead seat where the tyre meets the wheel. The deformation breaks the airtight seal between tyre and rim, and air seeps out gradually.
A third signal is the car pulling to one side without any change in tyre pressure and without worn suspension components. A rim that is no longer perfectly round creates uneven rolling resistance on the affected axle.
For a visual check: jack the car and spin the wheel slowly by hand. Watch the tyre sidewall and the rim edge as they rotate. Any wobble, hop, or variation in the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch at full rotation indicates the rim is no longer true. This is most visible with the wheel at arm's length in direct light.
Some bends are not visible at all without removing the tyre and mounting the wheel on a dial indicator. A hairline deformation of 2 to 3 mm is enough to cause constant tyre pressure loss but is invisible to the eye.
What Causes Bent Rims in Dubai?
Dubai's road infrastructure is generally well maintained, but specific conditions cause most bent rim incidents here:
Potholes in industrial and developing areas. Al Quoz, Ras Al Khor, and parts of the Jebel Ali industrial belt have road surfaces that deteriorate faster than residential and commercial roads. Driving through a pothole at 60 km/h or above transfers enough impact energy to deform an alloy rim immediately.
Speed bumps taken at speed. Dubai's residential communities, including Discovery Gardens, JVC, and The Greens, have speed bumps that vary considerably in height and profile. A speed bump taken at 30 km/h rather than 15 to 20 km/h can produce enough impact to bend a rim, particularly on low-profile tyres where there is less sidewall cushioning.
Kerb impacts. Not the slow scrape that causes kerb rash, but a direct hit on the kerb at an angle during a turn or parking manoeuvre. The rim takes the full lateral impact across the rim lip, which can produce a localised bend at the point of contact.
Running a flat or underinflated tyre. When tyre pressure drops significantly, the sidewall collapses on cornering and acceleration, and the rim begins to contact the road surface directly on every bump. Even 10 to 15 km at 20 PSI below specification can produce rim deformation.

Is It Safe to Drive on a Bent Rim?
The answer depends on the severity of the bend and where on the rim the deformation is.
A minor bend causing 1 to 2 mm of runout is not immediately dangerous but will worsen over time and causes tyre wear that is uneven and accelerated. Driving on it for days or weeks is not a crisis, but driving on it for months will damage the tyre and may stress the rim to the point where it cracks.
A moderate bend causing 3 to 5 mm of runout significantly affects steering precision at highway speed and compromises tyre bead seating. The risk of sudden tyre pressure loss increases. This should be repaired within days, not weeks.
A severe bend that you can see by eye, or a bend accompanied by a visible crack in the alloy, is not safe to drive on. A cracked rim can fail suddenly at highway speed, producing immediate tyre deflation. The RTA in Dubai considers structural wheel defects a roadworthiness failure. A vehicle with a cracked rim does not pass an inspection.

How Does Bent Rim Straightening Work?
Rim straightening uses a hydraulic press with a dial indicator to measure and correct the deformation. The process:
1. The tyre is removed from the wheel. Straightening requires access to the full rim without the tyre in the way, and any correction attempt with the tyre mounted would risk tyre damage.
2. The wheel is mounted on the press with a dial indicator at multiple points around the rim circumference. The technician records where the runout is highest, which identifies the location and direction of the bend.
3. Controlled hydraulic pressure is applied at the deformation point in the direction opposite to the bend. The technician works gradually, checking runout after each application of pressure. Alloy wheels work-harden as pressure is applied, meaning there is a limit to how much correction is possible in a single session.
4. When runout is within specification (typically 0.5 mm or less for most passenger car wheels, in line with TUV standards), the press work is complete.
5. The wheel is spin-balanced before the tyre is remounted. A straightened wheel may have a weight distribution that has shifted slightly, and balancing ensures the assembly runs true at speed.
The tyre is inspected before remounting. If the bead area was compromised by the original impact or by the bend itself, the tyre may not seal correctly even after the rim is straightened. We replace tyres that have bead damage rather than mount them on a repaired rim and have the driver find out at 100 km/h that the seal has failed.
How Much Does Bent Rim Repair Cost in Dubai?
Bent rim repair in Dubai is priced per wheel based on the severity of the deformation and the time required:
Minor bend (less than 3 mm runout, single deformation point): AED 200 to AED 250. One or two press applications bring the wheel within specification. Process time 30 to 60 minutes per wheel.
Moderate bend (3 to 6 mm runout, or deformation at the rim lip): AED 250 to AED 350. More press cycles needed. Process time 1 to 2 hours per wheel.
Severe bend (above 6 mm runout, or multiple deformation points): AED 350 to AED 400. This is at the limit of what straightening can reliably achieve on most alloy wheels. Assessment for cracking is mandatory before any press work begins.

When Should a Bent Rim Be Replaced Rather Than Repaired?
Straightening cannot and should not be attempted in these situations:
The alloy has cracked at the bend point. A crack means the metal has fractured under stress. Pressing a cracked rim applies force to a compromised structure. The weld option (TIG welding a crack in a non-structural area) is a separate procedure and only applies to specific locations. Cracks at spoke roots, the mounting face, or through structural sections of the rim cannot be safely repaired.
The rim has been straightened multiple times. Alloy wheels work-harden progressively. Each press session changes the grain structure of the metal at the correction point. After two or three straightening operations at the same location, the metal at that point is more brittle and more prone to cracking under a subsequent impact. We track this on a per-wheel basis and will decline to straighten a rim that has reached this threshold.
The rim walls are below minimum thickness. This applies primarily to diamond-cut wheels that have been machined multiple times. Each machining operation removes 0.2 to 0.5 mm from the face. After several refurbishments, the wall thickness may be below the safe specification for the load rating. We measure before any work.
The bend is on the mounting face or inner barrel. These are the structural load-bearing sections of the wheel. Deformation here affects the wheel's ability to carry the vehicle's weight correctly and cannot be corrected by straightening without risk.

How to Get a Bent Rim Assessed Before Committing
If you are unsure whether your rim is bent or if the bend is repairable, the fastest assessment path:
Take a short video of the wheel spinning slowly from the side of the car. Film it from a position where you can see the rim edge rotating. Even a 15-second clip on WhatsApp shows whether there is visible runout that needs attention.
Include a still photo of the full wheel from the outside. If there is visible impact damage on the rim lip (a dent or gouge), photograph that specifically.
