Car Dent Repair Cost: What You'll Actually Pay

DentGuy Technical Team10 min read

Car dent repair cost ranges from AED 250 for a small paintless repair to AED 1,500 or more for a panel with crumpled metal and cracked paint. The gap is wide because the term "dent repair" covers fundamentally different types of work.

The single biggest factor in what you pay is not the size of the dent -- it is whether the paint is still intact. Intact paint means PDR is possible. Damaged paint means the panel needs filler and a full respray. That distinction alone shifts the price by 40 to 60 percent.

This guide breaks down dent repair cost by method and damage type, explains what pushes prices up, and answers the most common questions about whether it is worth fixing and when insurance makes sense.

What Does Car Dent Repair Cost?

The short answer: PDR (paintless dent repair) costs AED 250 to AED 800 per dent. Traditional repair with paint costs AED 450 to AED 1,500 per panel.

PDR pricing by dent size:

Small door ding (2 to 4 cm): AED 250 to AED 350. These are the parking lot classics -- a trolley wheel, an adjacent car door, a concrete pillar catch. Most take under an hour.

Medium dent (4 to 8 cm): AED 350 to AED 500. Slightly more metal movement required, typical repair time 1 to 2 hours.

Large shallow dent (over 8 cm): AED 500 to AED 800. Larger surface area to work, but if the dent is shallow (metal displaced rather than stretched), the price stays in this range.

Multiple dents on one panel get a combined rate, typically 30 to 40 percent less than adding up individual dent prices. The setup and access work is done once.

Traditional repair pricing by panel:

Minor dent with paint chip or crack: AED 450 to AED 700. Localised spot repair and blend.

Moderate dent with crease: AED 600 to AED 1,000. Panel beating to rough shape, filler, full respray.

Deep or crumpled panel: AED 800 to AED 1,500. This is where collision-level damage lands.

Bumper damage (plastic): AED 450 to AED 900 for reshaping, crack repair, and respray.

What Makes Dent Repair More Expensive?

Four variables drive dent repair cost beyond the size of the damage:

**Paint condition.** This is the biggest cost lever. A dent with intact paint qualifies for PDR, which is 40 to 60 percent cheaper than traditional repair and returns your car in hours rather than days. A dent where the paint has cracked or chipped requires the panel to be resprayed regardless of how the metal is repaired. If you have a dent where the paint looks fine, repair it promptly. Dubai's UV index regularly exceeds 10 during summer, and UV stress on paint that is already deformed by a dent accelerates micro-cracking. A repair that qualifies for PDR today may not qualify in 6 months.

**Location on the panel.** A dent dead-centre on a flat door skin is the easiest repair. A dent on a body crease, near a window frame, or close to a wheel arch requires more careful tool angles and takes longer. Dents near the edge of a panel may not be reachable with PDR tooling at all, pushing the job into traditional repair territory regardless of paint condition.

**Panel material.** Steel is the standard. Aluminium panels -- common on Range Rover, Tesla, Jaguar, and some Audi models -- require different PDR tooling and more careful technique. The same dent on an aluminium panel costs 10 to 20 percent more than on steel.

**Access difficulty.** Some panels have internal bracing, wiring harnesses, or structural foam directly behind the dent site. Getting a rod into position around these takes more time. Doors require the interior card to come off before any PDR work can start, adding 15 to 20 minutes to every door repair.

PDR vs Traditional Repair: Which Applies to Your Dent?

The method that applies to your dent is determined by the damage, not by your preference. You cannot choose PDR on a dent with cracked paint any more than you can choose not to repaint a panel that needs it.

PDR is the right method when: - The paint at the dent is unbroken (no crack, chip, or flake) - The dent is a rounded impression rather than a sharp crease or fold - The metal has not been stretched significantly beyond its elastic limit - There is access to the back of the panel for tool placement

Traditional repair is required when: - The paint has cracked, chipped, or flaked at the dent site - The metal has a sharp crease along a body line - The dent is within 2 to 3 cm of the panel edge where PDR tooling cannot generate force at the right angle - The panel has previous filler work, which changes how the metal behaves under PDR pressure

Is It Worth Fixing a Small Dent?

For most car owners in Dubai, yes -- but the reasoning depends on your situation.

**Lease vehicles:** fixing a dent before the return inspection is almost always financially justified. Dealers and lease companies charge 30 to 50 percent above workshop rates for bodywork assessed at return, and they replace rather than repair where possible. A dent that costs AED 300 at a specialist becomes AED 600 to AED 1,000 on the lease return invoice. The maths only work in the lease company's favour.

**Resale vehicles:** a dent on a car you intend to sell depresses the offer from both private buyers and traders. Buyers use visible damage to negotiate discounts that exceed repair cost. A AED 350 PDR repair protecting AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 in resale value is a clear return.

**Daily drivers you intend to keep:** the main consideration is whether the dent will progress. An intact dent with no paint damage is stable if you address it promptly. Left for a year in Dubai's UV environment, the paint over the stressed metal area starts to micro-crack. The AED 300 PDR repair becomes a AED 700 traditional repair. The longer you wait, the more it costs.

Is Dent Repair Covered by Insurance?

Comprehensive car insurance policies in the UAE cover dent repair from incidents (a car backing into yours in a car park, hail damage, a collision). The relevant questions are whether claiming is worth it and what documentation you need.

For single small dents under AED 500: claiming is usually not worth it. Most comprehensive policies carry a deductible (excess) of AED 500 to AED 1,500. If the deductible exceeds or matches the repair cost, you pay nothing in net terms but lose your no-claims discount and potentially see your premium increase at renewal. Pay out of pocket.

For moderate damage above AED 800: an insurance claim starts making financial sense, particularly if you have zero-excess parking cover on your policy. Check your policy wording before deciding -- some comprehensive policies in the UAE include a zero-excess clause specifically for parking incidents.

For hail damage across multiple panels: always claim. Full-vehicle hail damage repairs cost AED 2,000 to AED 5,000 or more. The UAE Insurance Authority regulates motor claim processes, and specialist workshops provide the timestamped photo documentation and itemised repair reports that insurers require.

Fleet operators: most fleet policies cover cosmetic damage with a per-incident deductible of AED 500 to AED 1,000. Batching vehicles into a single workshop visit reduces paperwork and often qualifies for volume pricing.

What Dents Cannot Be Fixed?

PDR has clear limits. Understanding them saves you from paying for a PDR attempt on damage that will not produce a clean result.

**Paint damage rules out PDR entirely.** If the paint has cracked, chipped, or flaked at the dent, the surface cannot be restored by metal work alone. The paint must be addressed through a respray.

**Sharp creases along body lines.** When metal folds along a defined line rather than deflecting in a rounded profile, the crease creates a work-hardened zone. PDR can return the broader panel area to shape but cannot remove a crisp crease line. The result is a panel that looks worse than before -- the surrounding area rises but the crease stays.

**Panel edge dents.** Dents within 2 to 3 cm of a panel edge (door edges, fender lips, boot lid corners) cannot be addressed with PDR because there is no angle from which a rod can apply force at the right vector. The only repair path is conventional.

**Previously repaired panels with filler.** Body filler changes how the metal and surface layer transmit force under PDR tool pressure. Attempting PDR on a panel with an existing filler repair risks delamination and surface cracking. The previous repair needs to be assessed before any PDR work starts.

For damage on aluminium panels (Range Rover, Tesla, Jaguar, some Audi models), PDR is still possible but requires specialist tooling and technique. Not all workshops handle aluminium PDR correctly.

How Do Workshops Price Dent Repair?

Most workshops quote based on a physical inspection or photos. The pricing logic varies between shops:

**By dent size and count:** the most transparent method. A technician measures the dent across its widest point and quotes from a rate card. Multiple dents on the same panel get a combined rate.

**By panel:** some shops quote per panel rather than per dent. This can work in your favour if you have multiple small dents on one panel (you pay one panel rate rather than three dent rates) or against you if you have one small dent on a large panel.

**By time:** hourly rates appear for complex jobs -- hail damage with 80 or more dents, aluminium panels, tight access.

The important thing is that the quote is fixed before work starts. At our Al Quoz workshop, we provide fixed quotes from photos for most repairs. Send images via WhatsApp (+971 52 315 1530) and receive a confirmed price within 30 minutes. The quoted price is what you pay at collection -- no additions at the end.

How to Get an Accurate Quote Before Committing?

The most efficient path to a reliable price without driving to the workshop:

Take three photos. One wide shot of the full panel shows context (panel type, car model, dent location). Two to three close-ups from different angles with a coin or hand next to the dent for scale show depth and profile. If the paint is visibly cracked at the dent, include a specific close-up of the paint damage.

Include a shot of the full car from a front or rear three-quarter angle. Different model years can have different panel constructions and material specifications.

Send the photos by WhatsApp. You will receive a fixed price within 30 minutes during business hours (Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM). If the damage is too complex to price accurately from photos, you will be told upfront and asked to bring the car in -- not given a range that becomes a higher number at the workshop.
